Coach’s Code of Conduct – All Sports
(Flag Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball)

All coaching rules and expectations exist to put safety first, foster teamwork, and develop skills necessary for both sports and life. The children you coach are still learning. They need positive role models who lead with patience, encouragement, and a commitment to helping them grow on and off the field or court.

As a Jefferson County Roots Coach, I agree to:

Safety & Player Well-being

  • Place player health and safety above all else, following league safety guidelines for equipment, facilities, and weather conditions.

  • Recognize and respond appropriately to injuries, including suspected concussions or heat-related illness.

  • Ensure playing time and opportunities for all players, regardless of skill or experience.

Respect, Sportsmanship & Character

  • Promote the love of sport by teaching skills, teamwork, and game knowledge in a way that fosters joy, growth, and a lifelong connection to physical activity.

  • Value sportsmanship and character above winning. Competition is encouraged, but “win-at-all-costs” has no place in our program.

  • Model good behavior for players, parents, and spectators at all times, showing respect for referees, opponents, and volunteers.

  • Address conflicts calmly and privately—never in front of players.

Inclusivity & Positive Environment

  • Create a welcoming atmosphere for all players regardless of gender, race, ability, or background.

  • Encourage players to try different positions and skills to support well-rounded development and avoid burnout.

Professional Conduct

  • Arrive prepared and on time for practices and games, with a safe, challenging, and fun plan.

  • Communicate clearly with parents and players about schedules, goals, and expectations.

  • Refrain from alcohol, drugs, tobacco, vaping, and inappropriate language at any Jefferson County Roots event.

  • Follow proper boundaries for communication with players outside official practices/games; avoid

  • inappropriate private messaging or social media contact.

Zero-Tolerance Policy

  • No intimidation, physical or verbal abuse, or unsportsmanlike behavior toward players, officials, coaches, parents, or spectators will be tolerated.

  • Understand that violations may result in immediate removal from the facility, and possible suspension or dismissal by the Jefferson County Roots Board.
